About us

Surfers Healing NZ is part of an international movement that uses the power of the ocean to create transformative experiences for children with autism and their whānau.

Surfers Healing was founded by Izzy and Danielle Paskowitz in California, and for over 10 years, a few lucky Kiwis had the chance to travel and volunteer with their amazing team. Inspired by the impact of those experiences, Surfers Healing NZ was brought to Aotearoa to share this powerful kaupapa with our local communities.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of people living with autism by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing.

For many tamariki, it’s their first time on a surfboard — a chance to feel the rhythm of the waves, the calm of the ocean, and the thrill of doing something extraordinary. For their whānau, it’s often a deeply moving and empowering experience.

All our events are completely free for families, made possible through the incredible generosity of our sponsors, volunteers, and wider community.

We are here to create moments of connection, joy, and healing — one wave at a time.
